Veneers Q & A

Are veneers right for me?

Veneers help re-create the appearance of your natural teeth with a thin layer of porcelain. Each veneer is custom-made to fit your individual teeth to ensure flawless results. Then, Dr. Yoon at Scottsdale Family Dental bonds the veneers to your current teeth. Veneers correct imperfections such as cracks, gaps, stains, or misshapen teeth. They also help strengthen frail teeth.

Although veneers can be made out of resin composite materials, porcelain is the most stain-resistant material. Porcelain tends to do a better job replicating the look of your natural teeth enamel, too. Dr. Yoon then presents your options and recommends the best type of veneers for your specific needs.

What is the procedure for getting veneers?

After an initial consultation to discuss the type of veneers that are best for your teeth and the results you hope to achieve, you return for another appointment. At this appointment, Dr. Yoon takes off a minuscule amount of enamel from the surface of your existing teeth to shape them in preparation for the veneers. Once your teeth are prepared, Dr. Yoon makes an impression of your teeth so the dental lab can create your custom veneers.

You come back to have the finished veneers fitted to each tooth. After cleaning and etching the surface of your teeth to prepare them for the bonding process, the dental expert applies a special cement and light source that causes the adhesive to bond securely to the porcelain. Voila! Once the cement dries, you have a new and upgraded smile!

What are some advantages of veneers?

Veneers provide a natural-looking way to correct crooked, cracked, or misshapen teeth. They offer these benefits, too:

  • Stain resistance
  • Little gum irritation
  • Ability to lighten darker teeth, so they appear whiter
  • Aesthetically pleasing with minimal dental work
  • Strengthen teeth
  • More cost-effective than other dental solutions like crowns
